Do you say Yes to opportunities?

In 2019 I had a ‘Year of Yes’ and it was a lot of fun. Recently, I realised I haven’t been as open to just saying yes, taking chances and stepping outside of my comfort zone.

So when I was sent the application form to apply for Gordo to model for the Unleashed Education team in Arrowtown, I filled it out and crossed my fingers… Yes, we were selected and then the nerves set in, what if he wouldn’t hold the pose, didn’t like the photographers, didn’t behave… the list in my head went on.

On the day, we drove up to Queenstown and had a wander around the town, charmed the tourists, played, swam and generally had fun before heading onto Arrowtown to do more of the same.

Then onto the location where we felt instantly at home, Craig, Charlotte, Becs and the team of photographers were all amazing and it was so exciting to be there with them and the other dogs that were selected to model in this session.

It definitely wasn’t an easy task for Gordo, or myself, 3 hours of working with photographers, posing, holding those poses, concentrating whilst the other dogs were around and also remembering to have fun!

What did I learn…

To relax, professional photographers are amazing to work with! They know how to give instruction, make you feel at ease and they also understand they are working with dogs, where the unpredictability can come into play.

That all the training pays off! Yes, you can always do more training and can always do better, but the feedback I had about him was all glowing and the team loved working with him. For some it was their first Kelpie that they had photographed, and they certainly do have a different (intense) look compared to a lot of breeds.

To say yes!

The reminder to step out of our comfort zones, take opportunities, and seize the moment, as these opportunities might only come along once and we don’t want to miss them.

On this day, I was lucky enough to be asked back for another shoot with some of the team and that was again an amazing experience! I can’t wait to see the images, and trust me waiting is killing me… They even used a drone to position Gordo on the edge of a rock!
